I distinguish between trends I see in magazines and trends I see homeowners actually choosing. These are the latter. Every item on this list is something we have designed and installed in multiple Eastside kitchens this year.

We are installing fewer all-white kitchens in 2026 than any year in the past decade. The shift is toward warmth: white oak cabinetry, walnut accents, warm stone tones, and brass or bronze hardware. White is not gone, but it is being used as a supporting element rather than the dominant one.

Induction Has Arrived

I resisted recommending induction for years because the technology was not mature enough. In 2026, it is. The precision rivals gas, the safety advantages are significant (no open flame, the surface stays cool), and the cleanup is effortless. Between 30 and 40 percent of our 2026 kitchen projects include induction cooktops, up from under 10 percent three years ago.

Trends to Be Cautious About

Open shelving everywhere — Beautiful in photos, impractical in real life. Use it selectively near the coffee station or bar area, not as primary storage.
Ultra-dark kitchens — Full dark cabinetry with dark countertops requires exceptional lighting design or the kitchen feels oppressive.
Oversized islands — An island should serve the workflow, not fill the room. We see this overcorrection in every price range.
